Happy Father's Day

These are my "Father's Day" presents.
My wife made a great breakfast and gave me a nice card with gift certificates to the movies. She said it includes free babysitting for one. :-)
My kids made me a beautiful sign with pixel blocks, a hanging picture frame, and gave a some cute cards. I got lots of hugs and kisses from all of them.
I love my three girls dearly. As far as I'm concerned, they are the best girls any husband and father could as for.

Lights, you said?

We received a new cabinet at work to store equipment that has been dropped off by users for repairs and troubleshooting. However, due to where it's placed, it's somewhat difficult to see the details of each piece of equipment inside the cabinet. Diane asked for some lights (lets say that she's been whining :-), so Lisa decided to go out and buy these push-on lights. This was her way of letting Diane know that they're here!

My laptop died today. Actually, the hard drive in my laptop did.
The hard drive encountered some bad sectors, and repairing the OS did not recover it. I was able to backup the drive with Symantec Ghost using the "-fro" switch. The funny thing is that I was thinking of reimaging my drive the day before but opted not too as I have way too many tools, settings, and software to redo. I guess, I'll have to now. Damn!

Aunt Betsy and Uncle Joe from Chicago sent these beautiful flowers, balloon, and stuffed bear to Sabrina. These were intended to cheer her up and to wish her a speedy recovery from her recent foot injury.

Broken Ankle

I returned home last night from Norwood MA to see my daughter's foot in a cast. Jen had informed me prior to my arrival of the status. She was complaining of pains, so Jen took her to the Doctor's, who then told her to take her to the hospital for x'rays, where it was revealed that she had a broken ankle. She's setup with a temporary cast until she sees an orthopaedic surgeon, who will then set her with a permanent cast until she heals.

Security Expert

This is Matt Luallen, my instructor for the Security Essentials class by SANS. This guy is an amazing instructor and he made the course so worth it. He's an IT Security expert, he knows his stuff, and he's really smart. He has his own security consulting company called Sph3r3, and lectures at DePaul University among many other things. If you get the chance, don't hesitate to attend any of his conferences, lectures, or courses. He's highly recommend.

Fire Alarm, Again!

Mark sent these to me yesterday to indicate that they had to evacuate the buildings due to a fire alarm. I didn't get any details but it's most likely a false alarm caused by construction crew working in the buildings. In any case, everyone has to evacuate and the fire department has to check it out.

SANS - Got Enough Books?

I received these books upon check-in for my SANS Security course on Monday morning. It didn't take me long to realize that I was going to have a real busy week. So, the breakdown of the books is as follows: 1 book per day for 6 days, and the Cookbook for the bootcamp (labs) sessions every evening.
Holy Cow!!

Complimentary Upgrade

So, this is what my room looks like at the Sheraton Hotel in Norwood, MA.
At check-in, I asked if they had any complimentary upgrades available, and since I was nice (as I always am,.......ahem), the nice lady was kind enough to upgrade me to this room. It's much newer, much bigger, and much nicer than the regular rooms. Come to find out the girl who checked me in is from Jericho, Vermont, and she knows my daughter Sabrina. She was Sabrina's assistant teacher in Kindergarten. What a freaking small world!

SANS Security Essentials course in Norwood, MA.
I received my ID badge at registration and seven books for the week (one for each day + one for the bootcamp labs in the evenings).
I'm staying at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel & Conference Center where the class is held. This is a great class but requires some major time commitment. Classes run daily from 9AM-5PM and then the bootcamp sessions from 6-8PM. So, you are pretty much wiped out by the end of the day.
